The Start of the Beginning

It started around 8. No, no not time, age. Where other children would rather sit in the car during house tours, I jumped at the opportunity to visit and daydream. Barbie was only as good as her furniture since that meant creating unique spaces every other day. Now, I can't walk into a space (empty or filled, commercial or residential, mobile or stationary) without redecorating it. Home Depot is my Disney World. I'm excited by Pantone's trend forecast. I covet power tools. I would rather visit home goods and furniture stores than the mall. I fawn over yard sales and thrift stores because that's where the real alchemy happens.

I.LOVE.TO.CREATE.SPACES.

So, I started to do just that -- create unique, quirky, imaginative and daring spaces that would bring joy to the resident's heart. First with my own spaces -- redecorating every other month and stockpiling accessories in my (now) storage closet for repurposing later. Then I began to design with, and consult for, friends and family. I created idea boards for people who hadn't asked for my help. Sure, interior decorators/designers are a dime a dozen. So why do I do it? Why now? Why spend a fortune on a college education to do something completely different?

I.LOVE.TO.CREATE.SPACES.

And once I gave in to that, something started to happen. People supported me. I felt .... satisfied and inspired in a different way; and I realized that my view/vision is unique. Just because other decorators are a dime a dozen doesn't mean I am. I'm not giving up my day job. I love communications too. And perhaps that's why interior alchemy works for me. It is a variation of what I do everyday. It is communication through art and color. An expression of feeling and desire with furniture. It is a three-dimensional dialogue.
I believe every space whether temporary or long-term should feel like home. I want to give that to people and allow them to discover who they are in a environment completely reflective of them.
